Fish & Eel Passes
The River Waveney Trust recently completed a project for the Environment Agency to put eel passes on Bungay, Earsham and Mendham weirs and flood control structures. The project involved design, construction and installation and was managed by trustee Keith Lead.
The passes on Mendham and Earsham were installed by RWT volunteers and that on Bungay by Aquatic Control Equipment Ltd.
The project helps meet the requirements of the Eel Pass regulations which stipulate that all structures need to have suitable eel passes installed by 2021.
RWT will be continuing to work with the Environment Agency and private land owners to ensure eel have the best possible migratory passage up the Waveney. A monitoring programme to be undertaken by RWT volunteers is being planned to assess the effectiveness of the work.
