Rivers Project Officer

Salary: £27,000 full time annual salary

Duration: 18-month contract until March 2023 (with the intention to extend or make permanent subject to funding).

Location: Home based (within reasonable travelling distance of the Waveney Valley, Norfolk/Suffolk).

We are seeking to employ a Rivers Project Officer for an exciting 18-month position, funded by a recent successful bid to the Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The full-time officer will lead on a project to bring together river users by improving canoe access, creating a volunteer canoe river warden scheme, carrying out practical river restoration projects and engaging with riparian landowners and other river users.

The main responsibilities will be to:

  1. Bring together multiple river users: local communities, canoeists/kayakers, anglers, landowners and conservation organisations.
  2. Carry out kayak surveys of the River Waveney to identify access and biodiversity projects.
  3. Set up a long-term volunteer River Warden scheme to survey the river by canoe/kayak and organise and run volunteer work parties along the river.
  4. Successfully engage with riparian landowners to secure sites for river restoration and habitat projects and collate the information on ArcGIS.
  5. Create educational materials on the benefits of woody material in the river channel and run events on the same topic to inform and educate stakeholders.

The role will suit an experienced and self-motivated individual with a good knowledge and experience of river restoration, working with volunteers and landowners, plus excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

It is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our small team. There will be opportunities to help shape the future of the Trust and take a role in its development as an organisation.

The Trust currently comprises a team of dedicated trustees and volunteers, a Catchment Project Officer and a Development Manager, who will work closely with the new project officer.

Deadline: Sunday 29 August 2021 11.59pm

Monday 6 September (Zoom)
Tuesday 7 September on the river (Location TBC, Norfolk/Suffolk)
